Strategy

With the partner’s diverse background and overall strategic vision for the future Valentine Companies will be acquiring / investing in middle market companies that have created value oriented positions within specific markets. Acquired companies will either be absorbed under our corporate structure or remain as stand-alone entities. Our strategy is to acquire or invest in companies on the lower end of middle market that can serve as platforms or stand alone for regional expansion in specific industries. For each deal, Valentine Companies has the resources needed to control a single investment or arrange co-investment capital from certain limited partners.

Valentine Companies is a control investor and is owned by its senior management. We will participate in structured deals to allow for owners to gain the value necessary to transition the business. While the firm is primarily focused on opportunities in the Midwest, we are not geographically bound.

We focus on opportunities supported by two primary themes:

Natural Advantages: Opportunities that arise from tired or niche businesses where we can:

Provide operational and strategic guidance to the business through multiyear operating plans
Partner with management and employees to fundamentally improve the performance of the business

Inefficiencies: Companies that have suffered from a lack of private investment, where the existing participants lack the necessary people, process or sophistication to compete effectively.

Investments

Valentine Companies takes a flexible approach to the structures it uses to pursue investments, giving it more latitude to invest throughout the business cycle. The companies willingness to pursue an incremental approach to building its investments has allowed it to capitalize on opportunistic investments.

Valentine Companies creates value for the firm and its co-investors by pursuing opportunities through:

Leveraged Buyouts of companies with the capacity to support prudent debt levels and that also have good growth potential.

Distressed Investments in companies that often have attractive underlying assets that permit the application of financial and management re-engineering to unlock significant value in turnaround scenarios.

Interests

Valentine Companies seeks to acquire / invest in middle market companies with revenues between $8mm and $20mm with supported EBITDA. If an investment opportunity requires significant capital above our typical investment size, Valentine Companies will, when appropriate, arrange co-investment capital from certain limited partners.
